The District Council of Moka is located in the centre of the island, in Quartier Militaire.  The district extends over 230.5 km2 and has a population of 83,059.

The District Council of Moka is divided into 16 Village Council areas.  It is home to renowned places like the University of Mauritius, The Chateau du Réduit, the Mauritius Braodcasting Corporation among others.

The name of Moka has its origin from the “Mocha” coffee which was brought in the island and cultivated by the French.
